Hey all youz! Hope you all had wicked New Years celebrations... I had a fun one... well.. kinda...
A couple of day before new years Sarah got a tummy bug and wasn't feeling well at all so I was a bit worried as to whether she would be able to make it out to the club on new years and down to nelson the next night. On new years night Sarah was feeling a little better so we rolled into town and headed to C4 (new zealand music tv station) for a brief interview and shit b4 the gig. Left the station about 10:30ish pm and ordered a cab, which never showed up. Out of almost nowhere Sarah starts feeling really ill again so I called my mum to see if we'd be able to crash at their place to which she said yes and offered us a lift. We get back to the parents place around 11:30ish pm and pretty much just crawled into bed. We spent the turnover into the new year cuddling in bed and then fell asleep. I got up around 2:45am ish to head into my gig (I had the 4 till 6 slot) and noticed that I was feeling a bit ill too. Got to the club and had a huge dump which sorted me right out and then played my set sawks and PedroNZ were both there and a fun time was had by all. After the gig I dropped sawks at home and headed back to my folks for some more cuddles and sleep. Next day we were headed to Nelson for the mighty Phat06 party, (huge lineup: Total Science, Digital, Pendulum, Klute, Teebee, blah blah blah... oh yeah and the almight Concord Dawn...
). I wasn't sure if Sarah was gonna be able to come down because of her funny tummy... but she's a tough bitch and decided to harden up... well, she was actually just feeling better anyways. Later that day, after spending most of it chatting with the folks, we headed out to the airport to meet up with Teebee and catch a flight down to Nelson. It was beautiful down there, perfect weather. Had around 2 hours to kill in Nelson before our helicopter ride up to the site. On our helicopter we had Klute, Teebee and a few other friends. I started talking about Richie Valens and Buddy Holly, Stevie Ray Vauhgn and John Denver in an attempt to make a joke. Klute, Sarah and the Pilot were the only people that laughed. The other two looked decidedly unhappy with the comment. The flight was wicked, such a view from up there. As we were getting close to the site (which is on top of a big, fuckoff hill) the pilot started commenting on how strong the wind was and whether or not he had enough power to get over the top of the hill, he was joking of course, but a couple of people started to cover their eyes as we got closer and closer to the approaching mountain side. Just at the last minute the pilot pulls back on his stick and we climbed violently into the air and then dove back down over the top of the hill revealing the party site on the other side. Everyone was in hysterics. Teebee started saying how he'd pay $50 at disneyland for a ride like that...
The gig was amazing. Around 6000 people in the middle of nowhere (well, on top of a hill far away from civilization) all gathered in the interests of Drum n Bass. We went off to the artist area to get our wristbands and grab a drink, which we did a lot of over the course of the night. Salmonella Dub just started playing after we got there and then Shapeshifter after them after which it was me folowed by them Upbeats, Teebee, Digital and Klute. At around 5am me, Sarah, or friend from Scotland George and a few others jumped in a van to head back to Nelson for some 'shut-eye'. Managed to get 3 hours sleep (which so wasn't enough) before having to get out of our room (I spit on 10am checkouts). We headed into the township for some breakie and catch up with some friends. After our feed we headed back to our freinds place. We drank beer in the sun and got a touch sunburnt then late afternoon headed to Nelson airport to fly back home.
New Years resolutions....
1: to quit smoking properly (none of this "I only smoke when I drink or go out" attitude anymore.
2: to eat less cheese and dairy and other artery hardening things.
3: to play more heavy metal than I did last year.
