Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD or AD/HD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder, primarily characterized by "the co-existence of attentional problems and hyperactivity, with each behavior occurring frequently together." ADD/ADHD is cause from my understand by dopamine not being properly transmitted around the brain.
So over the last month or so my ADHD has been kicking in. It can make daily things frustrating. I lose track of time, I forget half of what i'm doing, and i'm easily side-tracked.
While it does have it's downsides it also has its upsides.
My mind de-attaches itself from reality time to time and I am entered into a world of extreme creativity and imagery.
My mind goes into hyper-focusing. With the things that can hold my attention I extremely captivated by them. When it comes to hands on things i can spend hours working. The perfect job for me would be doing something creative with my hands. Which why I'm so into cars and photography. While I may not have a car I can take about and mod and rebuild simply getting under the hood of my car and checking the fluids and making sure everything is still in working order does the trick. With photography my mind de-attaches in goes into hyper focusing. I get to play with light, colours, shadows. M minds enters this world of extreme play that my hands can manipulate.
I also feel that my adhd has am effect on the way I listen to and see music. Music while mainly auditory is extremely visual for me. I for better lack of terms see music. I hear a song and my mind begins to compile images and scenes and make quickly hacked music video. Music is a way is the biggest inspiration for my photography. I can hear a song and see something and from there I can try to make that image i've seen something real that other can then see and understand.
While there are those who dont believe in ADHD because "its just what teachers call kids they don't want to deal with" its real. and honestly teaches will have a hard time with these students cause we' don't learn like the rest of our class does. We don't learn thu repetition. We are hands on and visual learners. Teaching us really requires an out of the box teach method.
And yes I could just take my meds and me a normal functioning member of society. But in doing so I won't. My meds gave me about 8 hours of hyper-focusing. during this time if you broke my focus i'd blow up in your face and go back to what i was doing. I had EXTREME anxiety I didn't want to talk to anyone who wasn't part of the little bubble around me. I hated being in public. and once my meds wore off all i wanted to do was sleep.
If you think you or you're child may have ADD/ADHD DO NOT PLACE THEM OF MEDS YET!! Before taking drastic measures try other easier things first.
