I learned something about a week ago...
Absinthe is now legal in the United States! The almost 100-year-old ban has been lifted!! eeek shocked

I found this out when I went to Cardwell, MO about a week ago. As I was browsing their liquor selelction, I noticed a long, black bottle of this stuff called "Lucid", with a notice beneath it advertising the ban's lift. And this is the REAL STUFF. Not any kind of imitation, of "safe-version" of Absinthe, but REAL Absinthe made with REAL Grande Wormwood!

I was curious to try it, but was unable to afford it right then. (This stuff was almost $70 for a 750 ml bottle). But I went back to Cardwell Sunday, and won some money off a scratcher. Not much, but enough to make buying a bottle not so economically draining.

Now I've tried this stuff....
And, "No", I did'nt have any hallucinations. Nor did I have any kind of gain in inspiration and creativity (both myths which led to it's popularity during the Victorian era, and it's subsequent demonization during the temperance movement)....but it does do one thing...
...this shit has quite a KICK!!!

It could'nt have anything to do with the fact that it's 62% Alcohol by volume!! That's 124 Proof!!
Now I paid heed to the traditional preparation method on the bottle (sans sugar cube which is optional), where by you dilute it with water, and did so, but DAMN! Two glasses and I was buzzing. It usually takes more than that to buzz me!
Anyway, being an Anise flavored liquor, the taste was very reminiscent of Nyquil (with much of the same effect) only with a slight bitterness to it as well.
It was'nt bad. It might have been better had I served it in the traditional method in which you place a sugar cube in a special slotted spoon, place the spoon over the lip of the glass and pour the diluting water over the cube and into the Absinthe. But, as I have neither the special spoon, nor the sugar cubes, it'll have to wait.

Make sure you check out the Lucid website. It's kinda neat, and has recipes for different drinks using Absinthe. (I tried the Absinthe Martini....that one WILL knock you on your Ass!!)

That's all I have right now. I think it'll be awhile before I try that stuff again.....like tommorow biggrin

Later my friends.
