My heart is breaking.
In the run around to evacuate yesterday I thought to pack the cameras and the computers.

What I missed is making me ache with loss.

When I was a little girl, my dad built me a toy box. It was a beautiful chest, I spent many days filling it with blankets and pillows and hiding in it.
When the flood waters were impending I didn't save it.

My grandmother makes quilts to celebrate the births of her grandchildren, a tradition she continued as we had children of our own. After T was born it became apparent that she would not be able to continue that tradition. She did make a quilt for T. But it was one of the last ones she made.
When the flood waters came I didn't save it.

My laptop was running out of storage space. I backed up all the photos of the girls as infants so I could free up the space. All the photos and memories of the girls in their first years...
Why didn't I think to save that?

Hopefully it was all OK and wasn't damaged.

I imagine you didn't have much time to prepare to evacuate so it's impossible to have thought of everything in the short amount of time you had. At that point the main priorities are getting you and the other 3 people out of the house with what you really need as quickly as you can.

Oh honey frown frown I'm so sorry.
I can say that now is a time to start building new memories and traditions, but priceless things like that are irreplaceable.
I'm glad you and mdf and the girls are safe though kiss
