I know what you mean. It's an annoying phase when you're neither one thing or another but it's better than nothing, I guess!

British uni- a 1st is "bloody good".
For some reason you get upper and lower 2nds:
a 2.1 is, "well done, you've made an effort,"
and a 2.2 is, "well, at least you've turned up to your lectures".
A 3rd is, "well, you registered for your course and put your name on all the exam papers- here's a grade"

It honestly staggers me that people manage to fail a year at uni here...
