Well I promised and all, so here is another entry...

I'm thinking about new ink.

I beleive in tattoo's/peircings being done at important times or to celebrate/remeber specific things. You earn 'em.

I'm due to finish my Masters soon (and I am GOING to god damn well beat it if it's the last thing I do), and enroll on a PhD. Finally going where I want with my life.... So time for new ink methinks.

I already know what I want... it's a (and this is complicated) fan art drawing of my favourite comic book characters tattoo. The 'Fan' in question also happens to be one of my fav artists and famous in his own right. Loads of people have the 'original' tattoo, it's kinda cliched, but I've never seen anyone with the 'fan' version, which is all blocky, black and tribal and works well with what I already have.

This is the 'original' tattoo: David Mack on World Famous Comics There are better versions of it but googles images is full of broken links.

Tim Bradstreet drew a 'fan' version published in the back of the 'Masks of the Noh' trade (vol 3 of kabuki). I can't find an image but here is Mr Bradstreets site: Tim Bradstreet.

I love his duo tone work, all the heavy contrast stuff he does sooo well. I tried to find a scan of his version on the web, no luck. I'll try to make one.

Go and read Kabuki!!!! It rocks.

So 2 questions:

1) Should I?
2) Know anyone on the south coast of the UK who you would suggest for such a job? (it would be my whole back and I'm not gonna let just anyone do that for me/to me...)

OK three questions:

3) What do people think about my reasoning behind my body mods?

Like I said, I wasn't sure what image you wanted to get a tattoo of, so maybe you should grab a picture of it and post it here? smile

Don't worry about whether the tat will be visible to people if you wear something that shows your back.

Lots of people have tattoos these days, it's hardly the shocker it may have once been.

Besides, it'll be a nice ice breaker when people notice it, or part of it, and ask about it.

You shouldn't worry so much about what people at university think of you. Maybe I'm naive, but I can't imagine that you'd find something like a tattoo to hinder your employment and research opportunities. But maybe things are different at UK schools.
