For anyone in the forums that I offended with my take on U.S. immigration, give this some thought:
First off, do note that I do not claim to "love" this country. I do not have miniature American flags or several dozen “Support Our Troops” ribbons on my car. No, I respect this country as I do my own home. And I respect other countries as I do other peoples' homes.
If I invite someone over to my home, I expect a certain level of respect in the form of acceptable behavior from them. Furthermore, I realize that other people typically expect a certain level of respect from me whenever they happen to invite me over to their homes. Let's view these expectations in a more relevant example, then.
If somebody expects to live in my home country, they should expect to adhere to general courtesies. For one, they should learn the native language to a point at which they can communicate comfortably with the majority of the English-speaking population. After all, wouldn't it make sense for all U.S. Immigrants to learn a good bit of English, thus enabling them to communicate smoothly with the vast numbers of English-speaking Americans that they will inevitably encounter?
And, to make an attempt at actually retaining this knowledge of American English, wouldn't it make sense for these immigrants to use it even when not faced with a fluent English-speaking person? Perhaps even forcing oneself to rely on the native language more would assist in making the learning process go so much more smoothly.
I work in retail, and I encounter plenty of non-white consumers who absolutely cannot communicate with me, even when I simplify my dialog and make an attempt to better interpret their needs. Such a scenario typically ends with this consumer getting angry as a result of my apparently inability to speak the native language of a foreign country that I wouldn't likely so much as visit. This occurs on a daily basis, and I guarantee that more people than myself experience scenarios such as the aforementioned example just as often.
The problem lies in the fact that this lack of communication will ultimately create some amount of disorder. And whose shoulders will the blame rest upon? Perhaps people such as myself?
Secondly, I certainly feel that every legal American citizen deserves his/her chance to make it big. Yes, do make note of the word “legal” in the previous sentence. No matter what anyone may think, nobody reserves the right to move to any country he/she pleases without the proper documentation.
As an American, I cannot move to any country of my choosing without the proper documentation and expect things to run smoothly. Why should I accept the fact that hundreds of illegal immigrants sneak into my home country on a regular basis?
Any illegal immigrant immediately breaks the law upon crossing over into the U.S., so should it come as any surprise that they may not receive proper treatment?
And while the citizenship testing procedure doesn't serve as an accurate example of what an American citizen actually needs to know to properly function in American society, the fact remains that this testing procedure serves to grant determined people their U.S. citizenship. Thus, the actions of the illegal immigrants immediately come off as desperation and laziness. Opportunities or not, I fail to see how such an individual deserves any sort of success.
Furthermore, I fail to understand why nationality or race should serve as a basis for which employers must fill open job positions, organizations choose to award available financial assistance, or otherwise determining the outcome of something that should rest on one's own abilities. How can anyone consider this fair?
Conversely, why should nationality or race serve as a basis for whether or not an individual receives punishment? Must employers fear retribution as a result of firing an employees if those employees display a lack of competence and reliability? So, why does it happen, then? I'll tell you why: Because our judicial system tends to sympathize with these individuals who supposedly receive nothing but hostile treatment from much of our society.
Why should I have to sit back and watch our country rot?
Now, to Smuffy, who deems me "uneducated":
Non-whites receive better treatment in our society simly because it's enforced as such. I don't claim that non-whites are any less capable than whites, but - even when they are - they always come out on top if this racial balance comes into play. You see, they absolutely must represent a certain percentage of our work force, no matter how much or little they truly deserve it.
As for my education, I certainly feel sorry for you if you can't extract some sense of my education from what I've said. I have a college degree, but I fell victim to a school that lies as much about its career placement percentages as it lies about the overall quality of its atmosphere.
In fact, I learned much of what I consider useful in high school. Do note that I took Honors courses in high school, as well, and I didn't rely on woodshop and the like to get credits.
And you need to pay more attention to scholarship listings. I guarantee you that many of the scholarships aimed at non-white students have no additional criteria whatsoever. You won't find such scholarships available for white students. I've searched for scholarships, and I know this for a fact.
As for "stealing jobs", I didn't say that everyone who comes to the U.S. intends to steal American peoples' jobs. As such, I don't feel that I need to defend that statement. Furthermore, no illegal immigrant deserves a job in this country.
Also, do note that I never referred to all immigrants as "lazy".
Oh, and thank you for attacking and insulting me on my own journal.

Everyone got up in arms recently because a politician in Australia suggested that anyone who wants to live here should pass a basic english test... but that is too much to ask and apparently a violation of their rights.
I wouldnt even think about going to a country where I don't know the language (for more than a 2 week holiday anyway)... but perhaps I am expecting too much from others
in reference to the comment you left in my alphabet journal entry - you couldn't be more right - the alphabet is a very powerful force!
