I've never heard someone say so much and yet say nothing at all, until tonight.

I watched Comedy Central's Last Laugh 2006 show, which starred Lewis Black, Patton Oswalt, and Greg Giraldo this year.

I haven't heard a lot of Giraldo's past material, but tonight's effort was full of racist jokes for the sake of racist jokes. Giraldo just wanted to offend and shock people and that's fine, if you have a point to make. If you don't, then you're just saying these stupid things, just to be saying them, which is MORE stupid.

In the past, I've heard comedians say some pretty outrageous things that you thought would offend a whole lot of people, but they had a point behind what they said and you understood where they were coming from.

To me, there's two kinds of offense jokes. There are ones that are funny and there's ones that just plain dumb.

Giraldo said what he said to get attention and not fill anyones heads with anyything thought provoking and insightful. Way to go.

Thanks for the tip, I may yet give wine it's fair shot. I'm afraid I didn't catch the show tonight, so I can't really comment. It's too bad it was in such poor taste. I'm a big fan of Lewis Black though, and I'm glad he wasn't the problem...

You seem like a pretty successful cat to me; owning and presumably running a store isn't small by any stretch of the imagination--I don't think you'd have anything to be ashamed of if you decided to start back. I think going after an education in something that you're passionate about is a great idea! And hell, I'm 24 and I'm still working on an undergraduate degree, and I'm not even the oldest person in the program I'm in. I've taken some classes with people older than my dad. Plus taking classes with tons of 19 and 20 year old girls isn't allllll bad... biggrin
