Scars

I’ve been scrolling through groups and blogs a lot lately and have seen a few people asking about scars. Are they distracting. Should they be edited out. So I just wanted to take a few minutes to talk about it since this is a platform where some of us are exploding all of ourselves to the world.

Here’s the thing. We’ve all got scars. Some are small. Some are obvious. Some, nobody even notices besides us but every single one of them tells a story. A sad story. An epic story. Maybe even a “hold my beer” story but all of them our mark an event in our lives. It’s ok to not want to share those parts of you with anyone else. It’s ok to edit them out of the photos you choose to share with the world. It’s also ok to embrace them. There’s a whole community of people here who see the beauty in our scars.

We see you. We love you. You are fucking beautiful.

First scar: about half an inch long, runs along the side of my right eye. Most people never notice it but it bugs the shit out of me

Second scar: left side of my chest. Had a really bad infection and required a catheter into my heart for 6 weeks of IV antibiotics

Third Scar: back of my left calf. The muscle was cut and is permanently separated. There will always be a visible lump in the muscle.

Fourth Scar: left foot from my heel, all the way to the end of my big toe. I broke my foot and needed 3 surgeries over 3 years to put it back together. The last one literally involves cutting the foot in half, rotating the entire front half inward, and pinning it all back together.

Last pic: laparoscopic scar on the right side of my lower abdomen. It’s been used 3 times for the removal of my appendix, gallbladder, and Fallopian tube. There is another one that matches on the other side of my belly, as well as one along the edge of my naval from those same surgeries.

@axis983 not at first. It was a pretty minor fracture but it didn’t heal properly and caused the cartilage to fall apart. The last surgery was extremely painful. Breaking my leg was definitely hurt more than the broken foot itself (spiral fractured by tibia and fibula at the same time)
