I was informed today that Big Brother 8 commences this week (possibly tonight?). Marvelous. Just what we need...
It's a money spinner. I don't blame Endemol. I don't blame Channel 4 (aside from the many ethical issues that surrounds the show, but people know what they're signing up for). I do, however, blame the cretinous creatures that audition. They spend a good deal of time and effort in securing their place in the most moronic and loathsome part of 21st century culture. It seems that self respect can go on to the list of things we do not teach in our society. Along with decent sex education.
'Celebrity' makes me cringe at the best of times but the breed that is spawned from this creature truly pains me. Apparently, we have a Womens' Institute member, an ASBO lovely, an ex lap dancer and... *gasp*... an Islamic women who will wear her veil. What is on each of these person's agenda? The prize money? No. I believe it's the lousy fame.
With BB the way it is, we our teaching the easily influenced and insanely stupid that it is better to be known superficially by the masses than intimately by the few.
Boycott it.
