A gate guard working for a metalworks in a large city noticed that, at the end of everyday, the same soft-spoken employee would always push a wheelbarrow filled with dirt though the side gate to leave. Duty-bound, the guard diligently examined the dirt; sifting through it, unloading it and then refilling it, even setting aside a small sample to be tested by the factory's scientists and engineers.
The process continued uneventfully for months, with none of the searches yielding a thing. The factory minds told the guard that the samples he had submitted were proved to be ordinary topsoil, worthless to anyone. But the guard remained vigilant, certain in his suspicions that the employee would finally try to sneak something by.
His dedication stretched over years. Until. On the day of the guard's retirement, he waited by the factory gate, catching sight of the employee pushing his usual pile of dirt towards him. "Alright," the guard shouted.
The employee stopped, tipped over the load and raked the dirt until it was obvious nothing else was there.
"No, no, no," the guard said, shaking his grinning face. "I'm not sure if you've heard about this, but today is my last day here. Now, I'd just like you to level with me, with my guarantee of absolute secrecy. What in the blue hell are you sneaking out of here every day, boy?"
Pushing the dirt back atop and wiping the sweat from his face, the employee said, "Wheelbarrows."
