I love Penn & Tellers show Bullshit!. I just saw the first episode tonight for the first time. I'd never even heard of it before (I don't have showtime)!

It's funny because I once wanted to start a magazine called Bullshit! Magazine that would expose frauds and.. um.. pseudoscientific, mystical, superstitious bullshit.

Yeah! I have every ep of Bullshit! on my computer, it's easily one of my favorite shows. There's also a few different streams on Winamp that play Bullshit 24 hours a day.

My life in a nutshell:

There are [counts] 5 empty 2-liter bottles of Diet Coke standing on the floor to the left of my computer chair like bowling pins. Every conceivable flat space on my desk has either trash, dishes, or CDs stacked on top of it.

The rest of my house? Fairly clean, but everything within arms reach of my computer chair is a...

I've been traveling a lot lately. I was over in Australia during Easter. It was interesting to note they celebrate Easter the same way we do; commemorating the death and resurrection of Jesus by telling our children a GIANT BUNNY RABBIT... left chocolate eggs in the night.

Now, I wonder why we're fucked up as a race?

Where do you get this shit from? Why...

The bit of Elvis Costello's "The Beat" on This Year's Model that starts about 2:08 in and goes to about 3:06 just slays me. Pure genius. Make sure you listen to it on a stereo good enough to hear the amazing bass player, Bruce Thomas.

To my wife, Rebecca.

I'd gladly lose me to find you
I'd gladly give up all I had
To find you I'd suffer anything and be glad

I'd pay any price just to get you
I'd work all my life and I will
To win you I'd stand naked, stoned and stabbed

I'd call that a bargain
The best I ever had
The best I...

My friends and I are trying to decide what game to use for a proposed role-playing night we'd like to have. My vote is Earthdawn or Traveller, my wife wants D&D, and everyone else seems to want Call of Cthulhu. What do you think?

Also, wishful (ha!) thinking on my part, but seeing as how my 25th birthday is about three weeks away, I've finally...

I don't mean to be critical, but, typically, you should only ask a band questions that you or the average fan don't already know the answer to. Y'know?

]

the questions you ask
depend on the goal of the interview

in this case
i had a feeling not many people knew DRUMS AND TUBA
and their history or sound
so i took the band through some baby step questions to explain that
and deliver it
through their mouths to new listeners

ive been listening to them for years
but
its not gonna help if i ask them about the congo drum loop on track 3 or their 3rd album
if not a lot of people heard of them or their albums
so.......
you get a more elementary interview

different goals
different styles
ive been doing inteviews - as a freelance writer
reporter
and
newspaper editor

long enough
to realize each style can be effective in certain places

When you name your band after the Sun King, you know you've got to be decadent, and that's just what San Diego's Louis XIV sound like -- all sleazy T. Rex classic rock crunch with lyrics that trade on tongue in cheek sexual deviance. One listen to their records reveals that some guys who really know their rock'n'roll are behind all of it, particularly lead-singer,...

I checked her favorite bands. I was not surprised to find the likes of Death Cab For Cutie, Get Up Kids, Coheed & Cambria...all the usual emo suspects. Is there like an instruction manual they all follow?
