About a month ago I started feeling like I was stagnating, musically, listening to the same old albums that mostly came out before I was born, and never listening to anything new.
A couple of weeks ago I backed up all my music to DVD (11 DVDs!) and deleted it all off my harddrive, and began acquiring a new collection of stuff that was exclusively 2004 / 2005.
Now I'm going back and re-adding all the stuff since 2000 to my collection. So I've got the last five years to deal with, sort of forcing myself to become acquainted with what's going on in this century. You know what? A lot of it is pretty fucking good.
I don't want to get old and not be able to tell kids about the music of when *I* was 20-25, just borrowing the stuff that was my dad's generation.

In retrospect i was absolutely no good for the inde/punk sceen because i didn't care about modern bands. In large part, i guess, it was the equipment they used: I always dug the late seventies/early eighties amplifiers and sound. also with most modern frontmen, i kind of got the feeling that they were all ex-choirboys - no balls or attitude in their vocals.
It was probably just a case of romanticizing another era. who knows?
I'm also now trying to get current.
