When girls whose skin was as pale and perfect as ivory get a tan, it makes me sad. I know it's their skin, some people like it, and I hope it makes them happy. I just love the chalk white look. I'm thinking of Mary and Fractal, at the moment.
Edited to add: Obviously, I've got no problem with girls whose natural skintone is darker. I think I just want people to be what they naturally are, instead of trying to "improve" it artificially. Even if you didn't use a tanning bed, unless you're a field hand or something, I doubt most people could get a tan without trying to get one, nowadays.

tans are just a bad idea. if you get one from being in a hot climate, fine. obviously those girls you mentioend were on a beach in bathing suits, according to tan lines, but sunning yurself is just a bad idea with cancer and all
