Herman, the snail that lives in our fishtank, tried to "have the suicide" today. We noticed that we didn't see him at lunch, but I figured he was hiding somewhere. When I still didn't see him at dinner time, we started looking around the floor, the filter, all over. Finally found him on the floor behind the aquarium stand, all sealed up tight in his little shell. First time he ever managed to get out of the tank! I think it's because I fucked up and topped it off too close to the brim yesterday.
My wife & I swore he must be dead, but I wanted to give him a chance, so we put him back in the water. For a few minutes: nothing. Then suddenly, a little tentacle sneaks out of a tiny crack between his "door" and his shell, as if testing "Is it really wet out there? Am I safe?" Slowly, he starts to relax. Now, a couple hours later, he's back to his normal self, and back on the job cleaning out our tank.
It's interesting how HUGE he is now compared to when we got him. When we got him, his shell was about the size of a dime. Now it's like a half-dollar! HERRRRMMMANNNNN. He's way more pimp than the boring ass fish.
