Productive morning so far. Wrote an SG blog post, have another one scheduled to go up today that I think people will like. Did the dishes, picked up the trash.

Have a question. We have a roommate who has a little chihuahua. I like the chihuahua OK, but her house training is horrendous, and she's a goddamn ninja about sneaking away for 2 seconds and pooping somewhere without ever letting you know she needed to potty. If the weather is nice and you take her outside she'll just sit in the sunshine and never do her business. Our roommate is so busy with work, school, and a new boyfriend that I look after the dog 90% of the time.

I discussed this with roommate, e.g. "Why did you get a dog if you can't be here to take care of it?" and she was like, "I wasn't so busy at the time!" I said, "I know at least two women who would LOVE to have this dog, can we give her to them?" and she was like, "NO WAY! I LOVE MY DOG! I won't be so busy in the summer!"

So, question is: today I have pinned the dog in roommate's room with a baby gate and plan to let her outside every two hours on the dot. I even set the alarm(s) on my phone. My feeling is that if her dog is going to piss and shit in the house, she might as well do it in her owner's room instead of the living room or (as she has done many times) MY bedroom. Is this ethically acceptable?

UPDATE: Roommate came home, saw that I'd barricaded the dog in her room, and said I was being "passive aggressive". Said I should put the dog in the garage if I don't want to worry about it. Yeah, as if piss and shit in the garage is what I want. And as if it's not cruel to leave a little dog in the cold ass garage. She starts howling until she starts to go hoarse every time she's left in there. frown I don't know what to doooooooo

i agree with MisterSatan. If the dog is going to make a mess, it's best that it messes in the owner's room, not common areas of the house. If you really wanted to be nice, go out and buy some training pads and put them in her bedroom....but that's up to you.

well, i am out of ideas.

Maybe just a swift kick to the roommate's head?

If you're letting the dog out every two hours to go get exercise in the yard, being cooped up in the bedroom isn't all that bad.

In all reality she should be happy you even CARE about the dog....
