Since most of us are trying not to think about New York today, here's a track of the famous early '80s No New York compilation, mixed by Brian Eno. This is "Flip Your Face" by the Contortions, who were, believe it or not, one of the most accessible bands among the NY No Wave crowd.

Of course, that's like saying the sound of fingernails on...

The Contortions first album "Buy" has the second greatest album cover I've ever seen ("Cut" by The Slits is first, by the way). I never really dug that whole No Wave scene from a musical standpoint, though.

The afternoon was spent with bedroom shennanigains, and then busting out MAME and beating the X-Men arcade game together. I think we calculated that we used about a hundred virtual quarters. LOL. love

The song of the day is "St. John the Divine" by Ted Leo & the Pharmacists off the 2001 Lookout! release The Tyranny of Distance.

heh. yeah... i thought it was a pretty funny dream. i almost expected a conversation with it.

the old pic is around somewhere... got changed out for some reason or another (who knows?)...

a hundred virtual quarters, eh? nice. the last time i spent a hundred virtual quarters with a girl... we were trying to clean her comforter in the itty-bitty washer/dryer at her house... i think we washed it like a dozen times and dried it twice as many... lame, i know.
lemonkid:
Ted Leo's playing here later with Manitoba! Fun fun.

I'm sitting here waiting for Liz Phair to call. Nerve wracking. I was up until 5am last night sweating this one, sweating bullets. I have a love/hate relationship with these "important" interviews, the ones where I think "I better not fuck this up." like Sleater-Kinney or Neil Gaiman. It's exciting and terrifying at the same time.

Edited to Add:
Awww.. her previous interview ran late...

If you can get me Prince of Persia for the pc I will be your willing sandwich-making slave for eternity...

Any beat 'em up arcade games from Capcom circa 1990 - on. Games like Final Fight, Knights of the Round, Street Fighter, etc. Those are still pretty easy to find last time I checked.

Sometimes I like to think about how wondrous how we experience reality is. Here I am, sitting at my desk, and I can see my desk, but I'm not really seeing the desk. I'm seeing the way its various angles, materials, and atomic structure reflect beams of light into my eyeballs, which are then processed by my brain into what I think is my desk....

Put a rubber band on your hand, every time you need a wank, twang it so it hurts.
Or else I heard you can get patches...
Um, staying off the pics on this site might help smile

looking forward to that one.

we finally made it to ohio. we'll be here for about a year. on the way out, i listened to bands according to where we were at the time. in kansas, i listened to the flaming lips and starlight mints (hey, close enough, right? biggrin) in illinois, it was alkaline trio, hum and braid. it was GREAT-i highly recommend that for long road trips...

So, I have an opportunity to interview Liz Phair. I'm waiting on what Sean thinks, which will be the ultimate deciding factor, but what do you kids think?

Would you enjoy seeing an interview with Ms. Phair on SG?

I feel kindof bad. I'm wondering, if I ask the questions I want to ask, if she'll hang up on me.

I wrote this in 2000, or 2001. Not sure, but it was definitely the first poem I was proud of:

------------------------------------------------------------

When? O when?

My bones are strung over a rack of hours

Minutes which are told to be days

but are not the actors required for the role

(Minutes cannot recall the lines of days)

Stretched far too thinly and needing

the glue of...

Tomorrow I call Rebecca. smile

Matt's computer's got some sort of virii, not cool. Not cool at all. He's been working on it all afternoon.

Tonight I go meet Brooke!

I talked to Andrew W.K. today, and man, I am blown away by that guy. You listen to his music, you think, okay, here's this guy who just wants to party. No.

He's on a mission, and he's absolutely sincere about it. He feels that the meaning of life is to enjoy yourself, and that it takes a stronger...

yeah, i've heard a lot of things like that about him... unfortunately, i think he got a "frat boy party-hard" stigma attached in the beginning and nobody's been able to let go of that...

in any case, yes... enjoy... biggrin
