Well, I recently made it back to Oklahoma from a little vacation to sunny Florida. Florida is a pretty nice place. I lived there for a few years and loved it. This particular trip, however, was less than wonderful. Let me just say there is no shortage of racists hillbilly idiots in Florida. Not to say that we don't have our share here in Oklahoma and well everywhere, for that matter. Though, the individuals in Florida on this trip were some of the worst I have ever seen. Many were NASCAR fans in Daytona for the race. According to the manager of our hotel, they were so horrible to one of the Latina hotel maids that she quit. My traveling companion, who happens to be Black, and I were stared at everywhere we went. One gentleman even quit loudly suggested that we stick to our own kinds so we don't produce "any more damn Oreos". I had really thought that we as a country were moving past racial issues. This trip taught me differently. It was so humiliating for my companion that she is re-thinking our relationship. As a matter of fact, we went from talking every day to me not hearing from her in three days. She was rather apprehensive about dating outside her race and I think this finally put her over the edge. I'm not sure why I blogged thisbut here it is.
