I have two things I felt like bloging about today, one fluff, one serious as death.

Let's talk fluff.

My brother-in-law has been good enough to loan us series of 24 over the last few months. While the show can be silly and over-the-top at times, Kiefer is fantastic and general the pace and verve of the thing really carry it and make it very, very entertaining.

Kim Bauer though, sheesh. Kim's natural instincts are always to do the wrong thing. It frankly amazes me that she ever manages to get to the toilet in time. I know it's an important plot device but hell, I spend far too much time shouting at her when she's on screen...

Surely I'm not the only one? smile

Let's talk serious.

I'm finding the news very depressing lately as I listen to the goings-on in South Lebanon. There's a personal aspect to all this; my Dad did several tours with the UN when he was in the army, several of those to Lebanon. I was always very proud that so many Irish people (and many from other nations as well) had worked so hard to bring some sense of normality to the peoples' lives there and it's tragic to see it all ripped apart now.

Israel and Hezbollah will have their fight and eventially that will end. Even disregarding those who die in the conflict, think then of the people who return to shattered homes, wrecked businesses. They face poverty and desparation in a country where the fragile economy has been sundered. Think of the mental toil this must take. If you've ever been a victim of violence, think how that pervades your mind set. Think of the mental scar the people of Qana now carry and always will.

Perhaps Kim Bauer isn't that bad after all.
