OK before I start to rant about how absolutely miserable my trip was let me say something.
I am so fucking out of shape. You can say what you want but I am a fatass. Walking all around SF is NOT like walking all around NYC. Dozens of times I walked from Penn station, criss crossed around, all the way up past central park, and back without feeling winded. Because...its ALL FUCKING FLAT>
So i tried to walk up to haight ashbury and hang out there. I walked up part of haigh, got something to drink and figured I'd wander around and such. Well I got pretty freaking lost. I don't know how I did it but I wound up totally not where I was trying to go. So i called nathan at work and asked him to look at an online map for me. So he told me to walk up 17th street and i'd eventually hit ashbury. so i could not, for the life of me, find 17th street. he said it was right next to market....well i was going the wrong damn way. Finally after walking up about 5 more huge hills, i figured out that i wa sjust turned around that 17th street was to my right, not my left like I had pictured in my head. But by that time, i was too fucking exhausted to do anything but go home. Ladies and Gentlmen, i lived in new jersey for 18 years and i lived through the sweltering humidity and heat of the 100 degree summers. Not once, have I ever sweated as much as I did today, in February in 50 degree weather.
I felt like such a fucking fat pig. So, i gave up before I even got anywhere.
I spent a total of about 5 bucks on a drink and a quick snack and the rest of it on transportation (cab back to the Bart station and a cab back home from the bart station plus bart fare).
So, i feel like a fucking idiot.
NYC is a grid. Sacramento is a grid. Sacramento is probably even easier to navigate than NYC. Letters and #'s.
When on the bart home I almost got off at embarcadero because i know my way around there and was gonna get something to eat but i figured fuck it. i'm just gonna go home.
So I did.
So I left the house at 8:20 this morning and I just got home and I feel like fucking shit.
Not to mention how disappointed I am in myself for going out there and not actually DOING anything because I was so fucking lost.
I almost just sat on somebodies door step and started crying.
I am obviously not cut out forthese adventures on my own.
HOW THE FUCK DO PEOPLE WALK UP THOSE GOD DAMN STREETS!?
Even if i was a skinny fuck I can't imagine that my legs would be able to carry me up those streets.
Here is a good example:
Do you wanna walk up that? i don't freaking think so
I'm gonna lay down now.
I feel like such an ass.
I want New Jersey

that should be an olympic sport, so dont feel too bad. those are evil hills. i consider myself to be in moderate shape, and i sweat like crazy on those hills out west.
That said, Haight is a worthy pursuit, even though it has been Gap-and-Ben-and-Jerrys-ified. Magnolia, in particular, is a beautiful old drugstore-turned-brewpub with wondeful waitstaff and great food. Also, many fantastic vintage stores and places selling shiny shoes.
