Coming to the second half of the clinic was funny in a way that made me cringe, I could of died.. Or the ground could swallow me up..
So the story was that this 65-70 year old lady came in for a sight test and I was the one booking her in.. So I've asked all the questions and wrote the notes up.. Next came the Visual Fields test, I ask the lady to place an eye patch to cover the non testing eye.. She did the test without any problems.. So it came to switching the patch to cover the opposite eye, she moved the patch around and said "does this look correct dear".. The patch wasn't on correctly as it was on in between her nose and her eye.. I suggested to take the patch off completely and replace it again, but unknown to me as I was helping her pull off the patch... I was shocked as she was saying "hold on hold on" and then I realised I pulled off at the same time was her wig...
I was mortified and could not apologised quickly enough.. She said to me "oh don't worry about it dear I had worst things done to me".. Let's continue so she pulled back down the wig and continued with the test.. When we finished I apologised again, "you weren't known", "right does this look OK to you".. I directed the mirror to her, "right good as new dear, no harm done"..
She was such a lovely lady and such a character.. She made me feel at ease in the most uncomfortable situation you could think of.. Thank you..
I guess in all work environments there is always nerve racking situations whether they are good or bad.. It's how you react and move on from that..
Every journey is a learning curve it makes you aware and makes you adapt to it and make you stronger too.. Plus don't take life to seriously, it can make you unhappy see the brighter side of things and you'll be happier... I did.. ^^ x
