I am obsessed with the show Gangland.
I think it's interesting to hear from the actual members and former members of these gangs as to why on fucking earth they do the things they do. That's why my last blog happened. 'Cuz I've lived in a neighborhood where a gang similar to the ones on the program lived. But since I was considered "part of the neighborhood" they never bothered me. Which is strange, considering I'm a 120 lbs tattooed white girl and they where somewhere in between 40 - 50 big, scary angry thugs, guns nonchalantly slung through their belt loops. But they'd greet me with "hey what up" when I'd get home from work and they'd keep their crazy shit away from my house.
However, white supremest gangs piss me off way more than the others. Probably because I don't want other races to think that all white people are that way. Yes, yes, I know, if they're knowledgeable they'll realize that I'm not a KKK member, but I also don't want that to be a fear for them. I mean, christ, it's 2009 and we have a half-black president presiding over the nation - can't we all just get along?
What also worsens this pet peeve of mine is one of my co-workers, Scott, is a skinhead. So while we work together he tells me he's got a Nazi flag chilling outside his house, that he thinks that this nation was intended for white people and white people only, and that the old Grand Wizard (or whatever ridiculous name he goes by) is a respectable individual - despite the fact that he and his associates lynched 6 black kids a few years back, that it actually sent a message. He tells me that I should listen to W.A.R, because he thinks that I would find that it makes total sense.
Yeah, I'll listen to W.A.R right after I'm done listening to Rush Limbaugh's pithy newscast. *Snort.*
Why does it seem like the right wing is becoming more and more violent, derogatory and outrageous?
I totally respect that everyone should get their say, that the First Amendment is truly the greatest of all amendments - but as to the hate groups and their feeling the way they do, I just simply cannot abide.
