So I typed all this then my computer blinked and it was gone. I don't know if I can do it all again, but here goes.

I was ready to get on here and bitch about the people on our flights but my world has changed and that trivial shit just doesn't matter any more.

Our plane landed around 5:30 pm yesterday, about an hour and a half drive to get us home. About half way home we got a call from my brother in law that a friend had been in an accident and sent to ORMC (the area we just left) but the details were fuzzy, we weren't even sure it was our friend. So we pulled over and made some calls and it was a different friend and he was taken to LRMC (the direction we were headed). For those of you who have met me you've also met Kat, it was her husband...my best friend's husband...Leo. We knew there were no cops on the road, they were all at the hosp. or his parents' house (yes, we're all friends w/ the cops), so we flew, I was on my phone and my hubby's phone the whole way trying to find out what happened. He was working on his truck (at his parents' house) and the fan blade shattered and a piece struck him in the chest. We got to the hosp the same time as Kat and the rest of our circle of friends. They took us to a conference room where his family was waiting, they gave us the rest of the story and what they knew from the Drs. He got hit and walked to the front door where his dad met him, he laid him down and yelled for his mom (who I worked with for years) to call 911. When he got to the hosp both his lungs were collapsed, when we got there he was stable. The surgeon came in to explain the surgery (they didn't know what they would find, but they were going to fix it as they found it) he had been given 10 units of blood, because he had NO blood pressure when he came in they weren't sure if there would be brain damage. They let 2 people see him before surgery (Kat & his dad - Joe) and sent the rest of us (including his mom & sis) to another waiting room. After visiting they sent Kat & Joe back to the first waiting room but didn't tell us that. He didn't make it to surgery. When they told us I went running for Kat (at the other end of the hosp) but they had already told her...when none of us were there for her. I should have been there! After everybody else got there I had to call and tell her mom & dad and our friends who weren't there.

I'm exhausted. My head hurts, my eyes hurt, but mostly my heart hurts. My best friend is a 27 year old widow and there's nothing I can do to change it. I can't make it any better or easier for her and that's killing me. Today we start making arrangements and I pick her family up from the airport. I may or may not be around here, you understand.

Babe I know it's hard, and as you know I just went through a significant loss also. The best thing you can do for her and her family and friends is just be there. I am really sorry for your loss. Do nice things for her, maybe do some housework or something that she not "up to doing." Give her space if she needs it but you have to let her know that you and others care for her and that you need her too.

If there is anything that you need or that I can do for you just say the word darling.

Hey, give Kat my condolences. I dropped her a note on MySpace but I'm sure she's a little preoccupied right now. The same goes to you, anything I can do for you guys right now, let me know. I'm so sorry.
