Where did all of the magic go?

When I was young, I believed that I could fly. Im not talking about flapping my arms or using fairy dust and thinking happy thoughts, but I believed that if I ran fast enough, I would lift off and fly. I tested this theory several times and actually felt my feet lift off the ground on occasion. You may think that Im a little crazy, but this wasnt only when I was a small child. When I was in high school, I was reminded of this magic when I was running in a track meet. Halfway through the race I felt my feet once again leaving the ground. After several years of not experiencing this, it frightened me a little and I slowed down. I still won the race by the way.

As I was growing up, I was able to see and believe in magical things all around me. The time when the sun is almost fully set, all the way up until I fell asleep, was my favorite time of the day. The dim light and darkness had a way of making everything come to life in its own way. This was the only time that you could hear nature whispering to you and convincing you to do something mischievous. Back then, I could hear the voices and believed that they were magical beings (fairies, goblins, elves, etc.).

I still believe that there is magic all around us. I encourage my kids to believe and not to be afraid of what others think if they believe. Unfortunately, society is slowly killing off the magic in the world. Everyone is becoming too afraid to admit that they believe for fear of being ridiculed. I may not be able to hear the voices anymore, or be able to fly, but that doesnt mean that its not possible. I truly miss the ability to see and feel all of the magic around me.

But I still believe that its there..
