It didn't take long for my surprisingly chipper reaction to last week's election results to wear off. One rough morning at work - Friday - and I was back to grumbling, stomping about and telling co-workers calling me for assistance to fuck off and figure it out themselves because I had my own issues to deal with.
I'm still not where I was in terms of being pissed off and disgruntled, but I'm back to being a rude little shit at the very least.
I've been playing Gears of War 2 more than I've been doing anything else the last couple of days. The story is still barely-there cryptic, but they tossed in more emotion and character depth this time. And as little story as there is, there's still more story than I ever saw in the Lord of All that is Overrated - the Halo series. Then again any five year old with a crayon in hand could write circles around that one.
The game is bloodier and prettier than before, with new enemies and new curb-stomp and execution animations. The action is larger than life and though they did introduce new characters as promised, none of them really amounted to anything and before you're even halfway through the campaign you're back with same Delta squad as in the the first Gears of War. Not that that's a bad thing. Cole has his moments and the Marcus/Dominic pairing might be the greatest set of hetero-lifemates since Red and Andy crossed paths in Shawshank.
I'm still half-convinced Baird could use a fragging, but his role as a MacGuyver-esque brains-of-the-operation was made more clear this time, so he might actually serve a purpose after all.
So more Gears today. Maybe Zack and Miri Make a Porno tomorrow, with some Little Big World at a friend's apartment. It's light years away from the adults-only content I've been playing, but its innovation seems immeasurable.
Also...
I did see Role Models over the weekend as well. I enjoyed it quite a bit, in spite of the KISS-heavy soundtrack. It was also amusing when a mother walked in with two little girls a few minutes into the film and got right back up and ushered them out after just a few seconds of dialogue. You'd think the R-rating on the posters, banners, trailers and commercials should have served as some sort of clue to her beforehand.
