I think I'm finally adjusting to the night shift. Or at least the idea of it, since I still can't seem to get to sleep before dawn or up and about before almost time to go back into work. Maybe in a larger city that would be less of a problem with people and businesses and all sorts of life going on at all hours....

Almost two weeks of my new nightshift and I'm still not quite into it. The hours are great - waking up in the afternoon and not going to sleep until dawn has always been my preferred way of life. But after almost nine years of dayshift and getting into a daywalker kind of lifestyle, I don't quite know how to live with these hours anymore....

The Wrestler...hmm. I want to see it. I suppose it may be one of those movies you see and then NEVER want to see again, like Million Dollar Baby...or that Jesus movie that mel gibson did.

as for the grave, look into whatever vitamins you can take, I think melanin or something....?

Not much time spent online or doing anything else the last few days, as I work to wrap up the final days of the dayshift and the area's afternoon newspaper, which prints its last edition Friday. I'm still trying to get into the headspace I'll need to be in for the evening shift, which I start next week. The sleep schedule is no problem since...

finding any information on thorns of life is next to impossible. i do need it to cheer me up. where did you find information on a recording? do share. it has become my new life quest. perhaps to keep my mind off the depressing reality of my lonely existence. i just want someone who understands. in my twisted mind i have that through music and words. i can hardly wait to hear it.

i think i like your job more than mine. i am sure of it.

Friday of next week will be my last day working a day shift. Due to economic harships, yada-yada-yada my company is downsizing its projects and in terms of what I do the day shift is disappearing entirely. We're taking over nights, which were handled by people with far less seniority. Those people don't have jobs anymore.

A lot of lives were changed today. My head...

that means more than many comments I've received on this site.

thank you.

What kind of company do you work for? I ask because the way you describe it sounds very much like a job I used to have working for a publisher of trade magazines. Day/Night shifts almost totally separated with most of the senior people working the day. I left it last July and they closed down the office I worked in back in November.

Anyway, yeah, I bullet dodged. My current company has already gone through two rounds of lay-offs and I'm still there. It's like I'm Neo or something.

Headache. No energy. Reading about the MC5 and a run-in with a counterculture group called the Motherfuckers at a New York City gig way back in the day. Downloading podcasts because I'm a nerd like that and they help me pass the time at work.

All quiet on the depressed friend front. She's shut me out. I guess what goes around comes around, since I've...

I said it a few days ago, but I'll say it again...I'm addicted to Peggle. I tracked down a copy of Peggle: Dual Shot for the DS at Toys R Us today and still ended up at a friends apartment, playing the game on his 360. So simply and so brilliant at the same time.

Meth addicts might have more self-control than we do...

From game-playing friend in China who drew more artwork of the characters a co-worker and I play in the online RPG Final Fantasy XI. My Red Mage isn't seen that often anymore - I'm usually on Paladin or Beastmaster - but it's what I was first known for and is apparently what she remember best. This is the fourth time she's drawn my cat-lady....

One word: Peggle.

Unbelievably addictive for something so simple. I was ready to mock the friend I saw playing it earlier until he tossed me a 360 controller and challenged me to some two-man competition rounds. I'm so getting this game for the DS and maybe my own 360.

Other than that it was just a quiet evening of hanging out with a...

Quiet day. Quiet week so far. Insanely quiet. The newsroom has been so emptied out by spring fever or allergies you could almost hear a pin drop, which is funny since I usually hate the noise but find myself missing it now that it's gone.

When I wasn't laying out pages I was either reading a book, having an online discussion about The Wire or...

Sleepy weekend. Sleepy Sunday anyway. I went out and saw Monsters vs. Aliens on Saturday and spent the rest of the evening watching the first season of Curb Your Enthusiasm at a friend's apartment. Both were pretty good, though I still like Seinfeld more than the latter.

Monsters vs. Aliens is probably the only way I can take Reese Witherspoon anymore

Sunday was long hours...

I don't totally disagree with you on J.J. Abrams. While I love Lost, I'll never love it as much as, say, Buffy the Vampire Slayer or Firefly. Or, even X-Files (before season 7 and beyond). But I did like his M:I 3 and Cloverfield was entertaining enough for his producer credit to count somewhat. Alias was a decent show, but not great, and I never bothered with Felicity.

As for the new Star Trek, I have reservations about it beyond J.J. taking the reins. If anything, he's one of the few (relative) bright spots. I mean, I dig John Cho, but he isn't Japanese. And I love Simon Pegg, but he isn't Scottish. Both of those castings strike me as vaguely racist. Why not try to get Ken Watanabe as Sulu-- based on what I know about how they're updating that character, an older, experienced guy seems more apt. Plus, he's, you know, Japanese.

Rambling concluded.

The only thing I've been listening to since yesterday afternoon is Crack the Skye by Mastodon. So fucking glorious, with riffs that sometimes remind me of mid-Ozzy era Sabbath and songs that never slip into being just background music for me. For me it holds itself together better than anything else they've done in the past. I don't recall the last time I fell in...

Was that a serious question? Hah, of course I did! I watched all the episodes on Tuesday. I'll probably start watching the episodes with commentary tonight. I have to prepare myself for that sort of entertainment.

I'd so do The Monarch. Only if Dr.Girlfriend was cool with it. Shit, I'd do her, too. So I guess a threesome. Haha! Who would you do?

All the chicks are pretty hot...

Rainy day, rainy day. My bones are aching at the moment from the weather and maybe a bit of a bug that's going around and starting to scratch at my throat. Traffic was snarled up downtown because a funeral was being held for a state supreme court justice, but wasn't an issue since I walk to lunch. The rain that drizzled down on me with...
