Thunderstorm yesterday. 100+ mph winds, hail, flooding (we haven't had hardly any rain this summer), etc. Extensive damage to hundreds of houses across the city. As my sister was dropping me off from work last night, we saw a fully matured tree on its side in the road, along with multiple fast food places missing part of their awning and their signs, and another smaller tree blocking one entrance to the alleyway to my apartment.
We drive around to the other side, by her apartment, and pull up to see the crown of a huge fallen tree limb tickling the side of my broken down car. I almost start crying at this point because this has been an awful month and it could only get worse if my car was smashed and/or my house had been pummeled by a fallen tree.
I walk around to inspect the damage. My car is fine, except perhaps a few minor scratches from tree branches. The limb barely missed smashing through my living room window and/or car window. I was very lucky, compared to my neighbor, whose car windows were shattered while he was parked on campus.
Here are some pictures I took of the tree:
I had to climb over the tree limb (in my broken bone boot) to get inside my house. My electricity was on when I got home but it went out a few minutes later and didn't come back on until around 2 am that night.

Escaping a tree-crushing could be a sign that your luck is on the turn for the better.
