Ten years ago I was still working at my FIRST job at a little music store downtown and doing a bit of schooling on the side. I was booking local bands, putting on small concerts, doing High School theatre...
Just a few years later after always thinking- I never wanna get in a band cause all the members always seem so damn bitchy all the time I got in my own band as a singer. Singer, really? I mean, the only instrument I *didn't* play but I think it worked out pretty well. We had a lot of fun, recorded 3 short cds, played a bunch of shows, met a pile of swell folks and generally had a good time.
Towards the end of that band time I left that music store after working there almost 6 long years. I knew there was only so far I could get there and I was already at the end of that distance. Originally I left to go to school but that didn't work out due to money/living situations and a month later I got hired by Olive Garden as a host. What the hell, right? I was always told that I should get into restaurants with my attitude and friendly disposition so there I went. Shortly after starting there I basically took the realm over and got offered a potential slot to travel to Italy on THEIR dime! That didn't work out but that's what got me to acquire a passport (which I'll get to later). About 3 months in they offered me a manager position which I quickly denied (still thinking I was trying to go off to school) and then on January 4th of 2005 I moved into an apartment paid for entirely by Olive Garden and started managing for them in Roseville, CA (Near Sacramento for those of you Map-buffs).
I worked for Olive Garden for just shy of two and a half years and bounced between 6 locations and even met a girl and got engaged in that time frame. God I'm glad THAT didn't work out though I did get to have a puppy in the process for a while.
In June 2006 I quit Olive Garden and had my first alcoholic beverage (just shy of age 24)
Started working for Chevy's that fall (FUCK I hated that company) and moved a few times, then quit there and went on to full-on commission flooring sales and hated that too. Started a temp-job position in a metal finishing shop that I ended up working my way up a bit in and stayed there for two years. I enjoyed that place actually. Got in a bad living situation with someone I *thought* was a good person and my best friend at the time who got me kicked out and a debt on my head along with eviction on my record. Fuck her. Sued her ass and won (and of course can't collect because she's useless... ANYWHO....) which assisted me in having to move in with my `rents which is where I am now.
Unemployed for a little while i (fall 2009) living back in the SF Bay Area I met (for the first time) other SG members. ShutterSounds, HerrCaesar, and Tez. And later I met Fresa.
Now I'm working for OfficeMax (which I hate) making next to no money (I made more in 2004 at Olive Garden as a host for goodness sake) and having more responsibility and blame than I had when I was managing a million dollar restaurant making twice at much. Loverly.
That leads us up to closer to now. Now I have a ticket to fly to Australia on June 16th (6 days before my birthday) thanks in part to Tez being totally awesome and also to Olive Garden encouraging me to get a passport that I'll FINALLY be using!!
What a decade... I totally have been playing around on my AmazonPrime account (thanks lil bro) and adding all these little odd things to my lil' wishlist-a-ma-jig during my free time. Goodness. What an odd and fun list.
I'm ready to go to Australia!! Which, go figure will also be my final days of work. So... also looking for another job. I even made business cards to pass out at work (not very encouraged I know but I'm not quitting this job, they're telling me I can't take vacation AND come back to a job) so I'll be able to do some networking and maybe get my foot in a door or two.
Well.... Bottom line.... I'm old. I'm excited to travel. I've had my ups and downs. I've been drinking for less time than I've been having sex (4 years versus 7 years). And... I'm soon to be unemployed again. Yep.
Nice to meet you.
