So I've got two auditions coming up once I get back to Cali. In January, I've got an audition for EPI, the experimental performance institute. Then in March or May (one of those M months) I've got an audition for The Circus Center's Clown Conservatory. I want to take both programs, and if I have the luxury of choosing between the two, I think I'll do the EPI program first... even though I really really don't want to have to wait to take the clown conservatory program.
Harvey and I have two differing views of what is acceptable from a clown. She thinks that a clown should push itself beyond just pure spectacle and have deeper truth behind what it does. And I wholeheartedly agree, but I also believe that its not a mortal sin for the clown to simply do the entertainment and spectacle part of it as well. As long as I can get Harvet to understand that (she doesnt have to agree) I think it'll be okay, but if we're still living together when I'm in the clown conservatory, she might take offense to my concentrating solely on spectacle for a while, and certainly any clowning gigs I'd take would be just that.
Not having the little letters written on the keyboard makes typing a little harder, but it is certainly helping me to be a touch typist.
The EPI program is a theatre program in New College of California that is amazingly good, but amazingly expensive, of course. That program would of course allow me to do more "legitamite theatre," which I would love love love.
Somehow community theatre came up in the family discussion after christmas dinner tonight, and my mom leaned over and asked, "are you thinking of doing any community theatre in San Francisco?" my reply was of course, "well no.. I'm thinking of doing real theatre in San Francisco." Not to say community theatre isnt real, I just mean actual professional theatre.
In the mean time, I'd sure like to have a job. Know anyone who needs to hire a bartender or a fire breather in SF, let me know... or hell.. for that matter a fire breathing bartender is something I'm willing to do..
PS if anyone can get me into the SGSF group, or at least tell me some things that're going on.. that'd be nice. I need to meet more people in my adopted city. I was accepted twice, but by the time i clicked on the group.. i guess i had been repealed. Howzzat work?
