well, its official, the stage manager for the production I designed is a complete twit. Even after 2 dry tech runs and 2 dress runs he still could not call a single Q on time. We had the run the show twice last night with me in the booth the second time giving the GO to the board op. The most amusing part is that he has been the stage manager for the Dance Concerts for a couple of years, now, granted thats only 5 shows, but one would think that after that amount of time he would have some idea as to how to make notations that he understands regarding when a Q is going to occur and what his standby should be. I guess my expectations of people are just a little too lofty at times. Far be it from me(having stage managed close to two dozen productions) to offer someone advice, because it's clear that I have no idea what I'm talking about.
The most aggravating part of the whole ordeal is that even after both of last nights runs, I'm almost positive that he will fuck up both performances. This isn't something I care about because I actually give a damn about the show, it's for personal, selfish reasons. If he fucks up and the lighting Qs go at the wrong time, my work looks bad. This is my livelihood he is damaging. No one thinks of the stage manager when lights go out at random times or the changes on stage seem unmotivated, their first thought goes to "why would the designer make a choice like that?" As a result, my reputation goes down the shitter. Thanks a ton, you waste of carbon.

I can't imagine working with people who can't hit their cues. Is it a student or a pro?

Hope the family stuff works out, you were missed last night.
