Dear Santa,
I'm tired of the insanity that wanders our streets daily, brushing against us like shadows, penetrating the isolated sense of security we may have had, if only momentarily. I don't begrudge them their mental imbalance, more I blame the officials, government and otherwise, who allow them to reside in neighborhoods such as ours and roam freely about shouting inanities and profanities and basically terrifying my daughter on a regular basis. And still that's not even the part that gets to me. It is that they are not "harmless" as they are touted. There are far too many accounts to list throughout our fine city where all it took was one sideways glance, one slip up, one bad day before reality simply snapped in two and a child, or woman or what have you paid the price with their life.
It is a dismal situation.
And not very holiday-like I realize this.
But it is disheartening to see these lost souls wandering aimlessly with no solace or safety for even themselves.
If we can dump millions of dollars into new stadiums, ostentatious waterfront movie theaters and mega convention centers (not to mention the endless supply of Target mega stores and complexes) how is it possible that we cannot find the room or funding to develop decent facilities for the mentally ill?
All I want for Christmas this year is for a little slice of the suffering to end.
Please.
I don't need the diamond.
Enjoy the cookies.
Love,
Me
