So we're sitting here talking about Peter Sellers and those Pink Panther movies that came out when I was a kid. I was relating a story about how it was sort of like The Owl and the Pussycat in that as a kid you think they're gonna be about the cartoon Pink Panther or an actual owl and a cat respectively (a la Benji) and you come to find out they are all this adult humor and adult "scenes" or "content" as they liked to refer to it then which is not only impossibly uninteresting but long and disappointingly unclever.
And speaking of The Pink Panther. What a fucking horribly boring cartoon. I mean really - what the hell? There was no dialog, the story line never changed at all, the Inspector chased the Panther which happened to be pink and living in the city loafing about wherabout a bunch of madcap misunderstandings and mishaps ensued with no resolution or closure (I'll relate this to my feelings about The Road Runner/ Coyote - Tom & Jerry - Three's Company montage in future disseratiion as I digress). But the bottom line is that it was one of those cartoons you end up watching at like 11 a.m. on Saturday morning because the Bugs Bunny hour has ended and you were tired of watching Soul Train. But you still sit there watching with resentment thinking, "Fucking DO something MAN! You're a pink cat in the big city - dare to dream!"
I can dig on the Henry Mancini aspect and I will say that I would proudly wear a Pink Panther t-shirt because he was still a cool cat - he just didn't do very much. But you know - some never truly appreciate their full potential. Some of my best friends could have boasted quite the same and they are hardly pink nor animated.
