It seems literally like a minute ago I was lamenting my daughter's absence, and yet, she'll be home in a little over 48 hours. She has called me woefully for days now, "Mommy, I just want to come home." It is a heartbreaking plea from my firstborn. I do adore her so. Her precious little brother has Monday marked on his calendar (in his very own writing) "sister comes home." He crosses each day off and gives me a daily countdown until her return. Yep, we miss her, terribly. Because no matter what happens, we four (NO! make that five - Sir Roland of Dogsworth is named for this) are KA-TET. We are tribe. We have lived in a myriad of crazy pieces of city and sullen suburbia. That little girl of mine moved 12 times by the time she was in like 5th grade - as my mother did with me - but that doesn't make it right - and it doesn't make it easy to find yourself anywhere when everywhere keeps changing. I was a runner in general. When things felt "icky" or stifling I would leave. Even if I was in love. Even if I was leaving something very special behind. I had the tendency to "peace out" as one might say. But this tribe of ours, we have weathered some serious weather patterns and we always come out together, unified, above all, got each others' back, that's how we roll...forever South Philly style. Each one of us (with the exception of the "baby" 6-year-old boy who has been surrounded by nothing but love and adoration since his incarnation) has had to endure loss and learning and leaps of faith of lack of belief and damn - I ran out of "L" words. Anyway, point being, we miss her, we are glad she is returning, she is glad she is returning and I am thankful for these people in my life. KA-TET.

P.S. I have decided to edit this to add that I will soon be learning how to shoot (because of above HAWT gun twirling image). I never even knew I wanted to learn how to shoot but living in the wild, wild West does make one desire these know-hows. And my father-in-law (of NORAD employment) and I need something with which to connect. I don't mind telling you, I get SUPER excited at the prospect of shooting things. This is why I could never be a Democrat.

What a gorgeous little tribe you have! I am so happy your firstborn is returning/has returned to the fold! Our house feels so strange when one of our kids has a sleepover somewhere... I can't imagine a whole month without one of them! Yay for happy reunions!
