There are certain albums ( I refer to these musical compilations as such because that is what I was raised with and it suits me) that I can only listen to from beginning to end because that is how I have heard them from their inception. You know what I mean? We are completely engrossed within this shuffle society these days. Skip/Ban/Mute/Reject. We simply weren't able, nor were we equipped to do any of that prior to now. And, in turn, many albums were made for that purpose. To be played in their entirety without skipping on ahead elsewhere...on headphones...with black lights...and lava lamps...and um, I mean...you know enjoyed and soaked in. I find pretty much every Led Zeppelin album to be this way for me. And Pink Floyd. And probably even Yes (never mind the weird personal ties I would develop with this band much later on in life). I guess, suffice it to say, that every band I listened to in the 70s was/is this way. It is what I can respect about Radiohead and Tool and even some NIN stuff...the thematic disposition of these albums allows the story to be told when you properly listen to it in its formatted form. No need to even turn the album backwards you see? And Paul is dead.

Oh yeah, so many nights under the headphones, listening to the minutiae of every track, and the way they flowed together and created a story...

Once upon a time, DJs had to have a license to be on the air, and my high school had a class to get it. There was one question on the final; "What was the most important lesson you learned in this class?" The best answer anyone gave was, "To put on side 1 of Aqualung if I have to take a shit."

I feel this way about pretty much EVERY Genesis album... at least the earlier ones. It may not be to your taste (not sure?), but I love that about Green Day, as well. While I can listen to the songs separately, I prefer listening to the CD in its entirety because I want to hear the whole story.
