Rollins was insightful, hilarious, humble and captivating. It is the first time I have grown up with one of my idols and morphed into a similar side show of myself (as has he) with age and the discovery of humility. I don't really have the energy to explain it all over again so I'll lazily repost my Facebook captions:
Courtney Del Ponte:
It is impossible not to think back to the first time I ever saw Black Flag as an impressionable young wanna be bad ass lass. Impossible not to embrace the memories of Love Club & Kennel Club and Zipperhead and Skinz. Not to mention the original roundup at the TLA. Such an incredibly long time ago-but man-was it alive. "This is here." as Rollins would say.
Philadelphia punk scene back when I frequented it
(Names removed to protect the innocent)
(Name Removed) I remember going to see the Clash at Pier 84 in New York City in '82 and I realized what a wanna be suburban punk I was. What a wild scene. Made the South St crowd look like a church picnic
(Courtney Del Ponte) Right?! Tasha and I used to go the NYC version of RHPS on 8th and I immediately felt like the poseurs I hated on.
(Name Removed) Do you remember Tashas friend in the village? Her name will come to me later I'm sure. She had the most beautiful green eyes. Chuck Tim and I stopped by her(moms) house one morning and mom was reading tarot cards of some drunk guy. Toto, I don't think we are in Haddonfield anymore...
(Courtney Del Ponte) Wasn't it Crystal or something like that? I do remember her.
(Name Removed) OMG The Kennel Club, Zipperhead, and Skinz. Now my brain hurts. What was the place in the old church? Revival?
(Name removed) I'm thinking Coral
(Courtney Del Ponte) Coral! Coral sounds right. E, the one in New York that was a church was Limelight - which was located across the street from Tasha's dad's warehouse loft. We used to sit on her front stoop and watch everyone mill in and out when we were Juniors in high school. Love Club was in the basement of a church or a bunch of class rooms. I keep telling my husband I remember being in the basement of a building with a ton of classrooms or something above us. But all those venues were all like that.
(Courtney Del Ponte) But, Revival sounds familiar too.
(Name Removed) Revival could take a whole night of posts by itself. I think about how much time I spent there and I feel lucky to be alive. What a firetrap. I sure did love it, though.
(Courtney Del Ponte) I only vaguely remember Revival. I must not have frequented that one. The name strikes a chord but I cannot remember what shows I might have seen there.

stcyr:
thanks for the memories.
Glad you had a good time.
