Going through this old trunk of yesterday's cacophonies has been super entertaining. There is this scrapbook from 1990-1991 I guess when I was living in West Hollywood and then moved above Sunset into Hollywood (proper). My first apartment there was a tiny little studio with a Murphy bed and a hot plate for a kitchen which left the over-sized fridge in the middle of my...

Truly. I'm not being facetious.
I stare up at the ceiling
And I wonder
What is it all for?
In response
The ceiling drips bitter irony and bad 70s dcor
Was Colorado around in the 70s?
We smug East Coasters ponder
This
Couldnt have been
WE are the start of
EVERYTHING
Well except for thousands of years

this is really amazing . . .
This isn't a blog cop out, though it may seem such...but the reality is...I just fucking love the shit out of this movie. This and Diner (among a few select others) I could watch endlessly and still find them better and more inspiring (and still, after a gazillion watchings, filled with more surprises) than any other movie of the past decade (save - for instance...

Although I love(d) Diner (and really need to re-watch it, I haven't seen it in decades), I'm almost embarrassed to admit that I haven't heard of Local Hero. However, I'm beginning to truly respect your judgment, and will have to add this to my "must see" list.
I have been obsessed with true crime for more years than I feel comfortable mentioning. I should divulge that I mean true crime books. And the kind that came before Google and made for tv movies and a gazillion self help "this is why it happens" Dr. Somebody programs. I read a plethora of these books, rabidly I might add. I spent a majority...

I hate to disabuse the stereotype [okay, no I dont] but Im one lawyer that hates true crime, and legal fiction, courtroom dramas, etc. (except for To Kill A Mockingbird and Twelve Angry Men). I prefer my books, and entertainment to provide an escape from my professional life.
I wrote out this incredibly in depth and well formulated entry after days of feeling too overwhelmed to have anything of substance to say and BOOM - it evaporated. Sometimes I hate the internet.
In it's place (because I shall mourn the death of this post for at least the next five hours) I share with you an excerpt from one of my favorite movies...

Just wanted to say hi. I just realized you are in Denver.

You should come sometime.
Rollins was insightful, hilarious, humble and captivating. It is the first time I have grown up with one of my idols and morphed into a similar side show of myself (as has he) with age and the discovery of humility. I don't really have the energy to explain it all over again so I'll lazily repost my Facebook captions:

Here is my story about the haunted hotel...because TV will eat it up and you need to know that I was ON it first:
My Visit at the Haunted Hotel

So, it happened again. The girl child, after enduring nearly a month of grounding (to include the times she spends at her father's house in Cali.) convinced her step-father to convince me that she should be given early release based upon her own recognizance. It was granted, under the terms that she pay back those three early release days when she returned to her Coloradoland....

aye, this ^^.
I keep trying to remember/remind myself how difficult adolescence can be & to try to look at the kids' issues with the understanding that they - - not only don't have a full toolbox - - they rarely understand how to use the tools that the do have.
I've been thinking of having A.E. Housman's poem printed, framed and mounted on both sides of Spawn's door, and each of her bedroom walls:

When I was one-and-twenty
I heard a wise man say,
'Give crowns and pounds and guineas
But not your heart away;
Give pearls away and rubies
But keep your fancy free.'
But I was one-and-twenty,
No use to talk to me.
When I was one-and-twenty
I heard him say again,
'The heart out of the bosom
Was never given in vain;
'Tis paid with sighs a plenty
And sold for endless rue.'
And I am two-and-twenty,
And oh, 'tis true, 'tis true.
as always, best of luck!

We completed LOST today. 6 weeks of good time spent for a big fat meh. I knew it was going to be a big fat meh. I had been forewarned tirelessly. And yet, I am still disappointed and let down. Maybe it is all a simple metaphor for parenting.

I know what you mean even though LOST wasn't my show. 10 years of Stargate SG-1 and pffft. They all end with a wimper.
Try Firefly for free on Netflix. They made a movie called Serenity (the name of the ship) to close it off. Harsh.

No, no! Parenting has this marvelous, awe-inspiring, kick ass finale. The kids become self-actualized and motivated, they move out, get good jobs, and have wonderful relationships. But they are so grateful for all the sacrifices and hard work that youve put in for them, they remain forever close to you - - and - - ask you to look after their children while theyre . . .
NO. Wait! Thats not it . . .
No, they buy you a home in Maui - - or Prague - - or Valencia, where they can come vacation over the winter holidays, and youre happy to look after the grandchildren for those two weeks . . .
Yes, thats more like it.

I just want a space and a place to call my own once in awhile. I cannot take the incessant and never ending chatter of the beings around me some days. I want quiet. I want five fucking minutes to my self to literally walk through all the shit in my brain that gets shoved aside by all the goddamned chatter. I love them. Unconditionally....

We were talking about how the music festivals used to be the SUPREME MOST AMAZING SHOW EVER TO GO TO when we were youthful. Pre kids. Pre responsibility. Pre rent. Pre bills. And how, reading the lineup forBOONAROO just didn't speak to me.

Hey!
Actually, I can empathize. There is much in Southern "culture" to loath and detest. There are a few bright spots - - mainly culinary & that certain "laid back" relaxed pace to life - - but in general, aye, it's pretty shameful. However, I could say the same for many parts of this country. There are plenty of rednecks all across this land. Shame, it's not just for Southerners anymore.
I also agree as to the music festival scene. It ain't what it used to be. There are exceptions of course, but whenever you get stadium/arena bands together, it's just a huge outdoor arena show, *ugh*

I actually lived in Seattle in 93 & 94. I think it was a "golden age" there. While it did rain, of course, it was that piddly little "British" type misty shit & I only saw a thunder storm once in almost two years. I do love the storms, but I'm pretty much . . . well, again, over it. We've got tix to see the Decemberists tomorrow night @ an outdoor amphitheater. The forecast? Strong storms. FML.
