Watched an awesome documentary on punk rawk on IFC last night - flooded me with the memories of being 16 - as I approach 38 it just doesn't feel like THAT much time has passed - it's crazy.

On Fiona Apple and redundancy in general:
This new album is such a huge disppointment. I was sort of looking forward to it and have given it more than just a one-shot go but the verdict is in and I am completely underwhelmed. It is grating and monotonous over cliche'd and just a shit load of the same old same old that she's been singing...

It's funny, but I've heard from at least 3 folks that it's GREAT great great. I never really got into any Fiona besides "Criminal," myself. (I had a library copy of Tidal.)
Sometimes when I sit down at the keyboard to type I approach it as though I am sitting before a piano...composing a concerto. While the melodies may be hard to distinguish we can make symphonies of words given the time.
My symphonies used to be dark and foreboding, deep oboe filled angst and lilting flute losses. Long, wistful cello years and far too many saxophone...

This is lovely poetic prose. I like the metaphor and the hopeful present and future.

It's not often that I read journals and am inspired by them. But more often than not, I am by yours. For THAT, I'm grateful
Random notes:
1. I have been knocked out - beat up - sick with the flu for two days. All I can tell you is that it feels like I have broken ribs it hurts so much from coughing.
2. I like cottage cheese. A lot.
3. My daughter's ice skating party is tomorrow - - - 10 9-year old girls at the rink with...

Cottage cheese? Really? I have to say I would prefer ricotta cheese, in the format of a big saucy, mozarellaed calzone.

I couldn't forget you! Still waiting for my phone call back, so I figured you just weren't coming back.
A foot of snow and it keeps on coming...it's the only time in the city that the sidewalks and streets are serene and untouched. I dig it.

I've walked in this snow far too much to see it as anything but the cause of my persistently cold feet. Fuck you, Mr. White Christmas. You're late as shit.

It fucking melted already. This is some kind of bullshit.
we are having a party - a BIG one - on Feb. 24th to encompass all of our various February birthday happenings. Check it out in SGPhilly.
Do come.

RIP Johnny Cash
Couldn't have said it better myself - and certainly couldn't have been nearly as punk rawk as Johnny freaking Cash.
Enjoy your birthday my youngest baby boy Nicholas (aka Calculon3000) - I love you so much - you kick so much ass - and...

Did you wanna be on Friends Lists? I realize my Journal this year has been -less- than perfect. I've been pretty scattered.

I think it was the first year of that category and they were totally clueless as to what "metal" really was. Say what you want about Metallica, but they probably should have won. Jethro Tull was not metal, nor was that album any good.
Not that it matters...it's been what, 20 years since then and they still make some weird picks. Granted, Slipknot might be a metal band, but I don't know too many metal fans over the age of 14 who thought their last album didn't suck hog balls.

The U2 Hola song makes me want to hurl...I mean nails on a chalkboard...needles in my spine...shitty assed song and album...how exactly can anyone justify their numerous winnings (not that I actually watched The Grammys but whatever)? That pompous, self righteous ass, Boner and his cronie "The Sludge", stopped being relevant after The Joshua Tree...in my humble opinion of course.

I agree with this, and I LIKE U2.
if only Bono would STFU occasionally.

Well, thanks! I think so too
And I totally agree...the Grammys have been completely irrelevant to the real music world for about 20 years now. Ever since Jethro Tull won for "Best Metal Performance" its all been downhill from there...

So, this morning while in the shower, I reached for what I thought was my marvy Oil of Olay facial cleanser only to find upon opening my eyes and feeling a rather slilmy concoctment coating my skin that I had just washed my face with my hair conditioner. My face was all sorts of manageable and tangle free like nobody's business. But clean? Not so...
