The Test

Lily hestiantely entered the room, her face a downpour, a landslide of foundation, mascara purging from her eyes. A black thought cloud hung above her head in a smog of doom. The white walls were in great contrast to the black mood she was extruding from above and around her luscious jet black hair. She approached an old oak desk that looked as if it had come from a bin sale at Ikea and found herself eye to eye with a dapper older man in a grey suit with terrible, horrifyingly grey eyes that masked a hidden, dulled ruby -red that lay underneath. The kind that pierced through her already transperant soul and all the way out the what some may have called cute rear-end. The gentleman proceeded to offer his hand to her in a polite gesture, but Lily immediately recoiled her hands back into the comfort of her chest, repulsed by a cold wave of white empty feeling that came from his direction.

The Gentleman simply smiled a coy half-smile as if expecting this. He turned his hand in the direction of the chair that lay in front of her, and offered a seat. Lily initially decided to just stand in place, in a show of defiance, but she had underestimated the power and influence of those eyes which where at the same time both horrible and beautiful. As she sat the Gentleman also sat, and begin immediately flipping through the papers in front of him at tremendous speed and skill, with practised hands. Lily bundled her own hands together, her fingers forming a marriage, unsure of where to put them or what purpose they would serve in this small, dark, cave-like room. Ever the imaginative little one, her mind raced through thousands of possibilities, and of course the Dapper one had picked up on her racing eyes and fingers that shook like wires with too much current running through them.

Is this a test? She asked.
