Last night i went to see THE coolest fan film ever made...

Raiders of the Lost Ark: The Adaptation!

Back in 1982 three kids from Mississippi set out to re-create and film Raiders shot-for-freaking-shot on their Super 8 cameras! It took every day of every Summer break for 7 years and was finally completed. After a few initial screenings for friends and family it went forgotten!

Until Eli Roth and Harry Knowles (AintItCool) picked it up, and somehow got it through to Spielberg! He praised it and it is now being screened in festivals round the world!

Last night i was lucky enough to see it, through a film community called Popcorn Taxi. Kirsty and me went in to Fox Studios, got some dinner and just wondered what the hell we were in for!

There was a nice formal panel and well, enough, the film itself....

Considering it was shot on VHS and Betamax and then transferred to film and screened on Hoyts' $500, 000 HD projecter, the quality was, well less than average. But that did not deter from the magic on screen! These kids must have had so much love for this film, not expecting results after and spending so much time on it!

The most outstanding scenes would have to include using a pet dog for the evil pirate monkey (who we find out in the credits, his name is Snickers and he passed away shocked ) The truck chase with 10 year olds climbing over moving vehicles and being thrown out of them!
And lets not forget the opening Boulder Chase scene! Its amazing what fiberglass and bamboo rollers can do!

After the screening Chris Strompolis, the dude who played Indy, answered questions for a good hour, also joined on the phone from the states by his film buddys Eric and Jayson!

Great inspiration for a budding film-maker! But we forget how easy we have it these days what with DVD and Hard Drive camcorders! But hey, a good idea, is a good idea!

Going to see Wolf Creek on Wednesday, can't wait! ARRR!!!
