Ok, so this is my first entry- I'm tired, have to go to work in 6 hrs (it's midnight), and I can't play frisbee cause I messed up my shoulder. But this definitely makes my day a little better.
I'm coming to grips with being an artist, and it helps to see some creativity, especially when it's not pretentious.
I don't necessarily believe all that crap about how art has deep meaning- all these people staring at a sculpture in the met talking about how it reflects the human condition, and how its a statement on the world today, when it was carved or cast two hundred years ago.
Some of it's definitely political, some of it's emotional, but I think most of it speaks to the artist. I don't think the artist has any responsibility to the viewer. If anything, it's the viewer's responsibility to interpret the art personally. I refuse to tell people the ideas behind my show at least until they have told me how they see it. Otherwise it's like Cliff Notes. Why bother? enjoy it for what it is, and what it means to you. I find Van Gogh very soothing. Is that wrong? What does anyone else care? At most, it's something interesting to know, and we move on with our lives.
And just for the record, I don't edit what i write, so the same goes for my writing (even though I wouldn't call this art).
