I forgot how much I love teaching martial arts. I used to be an instructor with a regular class every week, but when I came to college that came to an end. When I tried to start my own class here at the school, it was rejected by our rec facilities because "there were already three martial arts clubs". It's martial arts. There're many styles and many styles of each of those...so whoever directs club sports is a jackass.
Anyway, today I got a chance to teach again, which was awesome. The class I'm now in I'm actually higher rank than the instructor, but it's a different style of Tae Kwon Do from the one I'm used to, so I never get the opportunity of teach on an average day. A kid came up to me and asked me to refresh him on all the old forms from my original style. I didn't realize how much I'd enjoy brushing the dust off those forms and my old teaching style and putting them to good use. Memory didn't fail me and he seemed much more confident by the end of it.
Real point of the story, I thoroughly enjoy teaching and can't wait until I get my own class again. If I keep up in this style I can do so by next year, which would be awesome. Oh, and I'd outrank the instructor.
