Apparently in this last case it wouldn't have mattered but society has pretty much fallen off a cliff at this point. You know you're in trouble when reality is too extreme to exaggerate for the purpose of satire. The Honest Government ads from Australia that you can see on YouTube are an excellent attempt at dealing with the situation down there and certainly worth a look. It's hilarious and deeply disturbing at the same time. They did at least one on the US as well. When Margaret Atwood wrote Handmaid's Tale it seemed weird to me and yet here we are, moving toward a repressive, cynical theocracy. I don't know how she saw that coming.
