Throwback Time

I was asked for a throwback picture by @annajune

Sorry for the poor image quality but it's an shot from 1985, my senior year in high school when I played the Doctor in "The Girl in the Mirror". I was so bad that I got laughed at, seriously laughed at. I was never going to act again, but when my Drama Teacher wanted to put on selected scenes for a nearby college's drama festival she convinced me to try again. So, the second time in front of high schools from all over the State and college students I got laughed at again. During one of the seminars after the performances an acting professor used my performance as an example of horrible acting right after he pointed me out to the group. He tore apart my performance though after I said I had gotten the same response previously he did admit it was brave of me to try it again and that acting was almost certainly not for me. I never acted again but did do some technical theatre in and after college - mostly lighting work.

I'd like to nominate @ghostleeb @minnie3 and @cherrybomb to do this

Oh my god, why are people so horrible.. I also remember a certain high school play, where I had only one line.. and I managed to forget my one line :'). I 100% feel you, some people should not be acting and also should not be forced/convinced to do acting :/ . Thank you for sharing my friend! <3

There are credentialed people in positions of authority who believe that public ridicule, condemnation and all manner of verbal abuse are inherently therapeutic when coming from them and tremendous gratitude is in order. At best, a state of equilibrium might be achieved in which the recipients of this treatment will subject others to it and thereby have a turn as perpetrators themselves, thus gaining some level of self esteem. It's one way a bad system is perpetuated. That shit was around when I was in grade school so I know the feeling.
