This weekend was all about booze, football, and art. Not bad if I say so myself.

Saturday evening I went to my old stomping grounds in Brooklyn to the Brooklyn Museum of Art to see the Annie Leibovitz exhibit before it closed yesterday. I am never thrilled with the curating at the museum, the set up of this exhibit was no different. I also hate seeing anything in a museum in a gallery PACKED with people, it is not conducive to me being able to view the works at my own flow (be it fast or slow).

On the whole though the show was great. Leibovitz is so super talented it actually bums me out knowing I could never be that good. I wish I could have 1 millionth of her ability with a camera. The way she uses light to show expression and how up close and personal she gets is unbelievable.

The show tracks both her career and her personal life from 1990 through 2005. The running theme throughout the exhibit was her work, her family (including the aging and death of her father), her children (who she gave birth to after the age of 50 which is just crazy), and her relationship with Susan Sontag as Sontag was going through her ordeal with cancer. All in all a great exhibit.

Going into the museum I expected to enjoy the Leibovitz exhibit. What I didn't expect and was more than pleasantly suprised by was the Ron Mueck Mid-Career exhibit. If you don't know anything about Mueck he is Uber-Realism. He creates sculptures of people that are painstakingly detailed down to the ridges on a fingernail. The catch is that Mueck plays with size, so some figures are tiny and others HUGE. being in the rooms with them I was impressed by the craftsmanship that would go into creating one of these sculptures, but at the same time it is hard no being intimidated by the sheer size of these things. Not to mention these are all nude figures that emote strong feelings on their faces and body language. If you get a chance to see his work you should def check if out.

Then I got to watch football all day yesterday and even though I had no rooting interest in any of the teams there is still nothing better than a day of really good football.

Have a good week everyone!
