my brother is holed up in his basement listening to soulwhirlingsomewhere. it's drifting up through the vents, and moving in between the ticking of clocks.

this house is filled with antique clocks. it is never really quiet here. sometimes, when i can't get up above the noise, i go outside to the coach house and sit there and soak up the silence.

i used to listen to my discman constantly. it was a barrier to the world. it kept everyone out. if you lose your sight, you lose things. if you lose your hearing, you lose people. i think helen keller said that.

the distance between two people is not real. all things are inextricably linked - a buddhist will tell you that, so will a sufi mystic, or a quantum physicist. funny how scientists and mystics approach the same truths from what seem to be different paths.
