Who knew that pre-60s the CIA was primarily responsible for bringing LSD to the forefront? In pre- and during cold war era they had hopes of using LSD as a truth serum for espionage purposes. They began top secret programs called ARTICHOKE to begin testing its effects. Some of these programs involved testing it internally among unsuspecting co-workers in party punch bowls, having an agent recruit prostitures to lure men into an apartment where he could observe them from a two-way mirrior, and having nurses and doctors administer the drug to patients in mental hospitals and prisons. They ran these programs for about ten years until they gave up deeming the drug too arbitrary for permanant applicability. ........hmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
