Well. here's the update on my Ozzfest experience.

The morning started off just like any other morning. I got up feeling like shit due to lack of sleep but excited about the show.

My friends showed up about 7:30 and we took off for Nashville after dropping my kids off at their nannys.

Somewhere between Mcminnville and Murfreesboro we had a flat tire. No big deal, it just put us a little behind. We got back on the road no worse for wear.

We arrived at the show a little late and missed the first couple groups that played on the second stage. I wasn't real worked up about it though because I got to see Lacuna Coil and they were the only band on the second stage that I really wanted to see. They were fucking incredible. The rest of the groups were all cool but no one else really stood out to me. Slipknot puts on a good live show but i've never really been that fond of them.

A couple of hours before everyone was done on the second stage it became 15 or 20 degrees hotter than the ninth level of Hell. For lunch I had a hot dog, a bottle of water, and Coke, all that cost me 12 bucks. Needless to say I didn't actually purchase any more water, I just kept hitting the fountains and sinks and refilling my bottle.

The first stage got cranked up at about 4:30 or so, the sun was about 6 inches from my left shoulder at this point but I wasn't going to let it stop me from enjoying Black Label Society, Superjoint Ritual, Dimmu Borgir, and Slayer, all of which were in top form, Slayer especially.

Then finally that infernal ball of bright fiery pain went down and Judas Priest took the stage. "Took" being the word, because they owned that motherfucker. I've been a Priest fan for as long as I can remember but I had never gotten to see them live before and in all honesty they were better even than I had hoped they would be. Metal Gods indeed.

After Priest was done I was high on life and just layed there in the grass waiting for my religion. Black Sabbath. If it is possible to imagine, I think that Ozzy and the boys were better the second time around. The first time I saw them they were incredible, awesome, mind-blowing even, but this time it almost felt as if they were just there for the fun of it and that they were having a fucking blast. When they played Children of the Grave I think I arrived.

All in all Ozzfest 2004 was, in my humble opinion, a fucking magnificent way to waste ones time and I only have a few complaints. Those complaints would be...

On a professional level...

Have less bands and let the bands you have play longer sets.

On a personal level...

If you drink copious amounts of alcohol at an all day metalfest with little to no water then please don't expect the rest of us to give a shit when you dehydrate and go into toxic shock. Please just go find a corner and die.

What the fuck are people thinking when they bring babies to shit like this? Did they honestly get up that morning and think to themsleves "Uh, yeah, taking my infant son/daughter out into the blazing hot weather all day long around a bunch of fucking drunks and pot smoking fiends who are partaking of music so loud it's setting off car alarms in nieghbooring states seems like a really good idea, hyuck-hyuck!" Fucking assholes!

Why the fuck do people think it's cool to dress in full garb on day when it's hot enough to peel flesh from the bone? I was in cut off shorts, a t-shirt, and flip flops and I was roasting. I saw people there in black leather pants, black long sleeved shirts, jackets, and masks! Obviously I am very uncool because when it comes to comfort or style i'm goin' with comfort bitch.

If your 14 year old daughter left the house that morning wearing black leather boots with 6 inch platforms and black fishnet stockings under a black skirt that could double for a napkin and a top that shows off her nipple peircings then please try not to be surprised when she shows up pregnant and doesn't know which one of the 5 guys she fucked that day is the father. Maybe she was looking for the father figure you never were? Dumbass.

God damn, I need to climb off this box and wrap this up. In closing i'd like to say that I can only hope that my friends who might read this will one day get to experience a concert this good, if they haven't already.

Peace.

I wish I could have gone to Ozzfest this year, but they aren't coming around to our neck of the woods. I duno what the arena in Kansas City did to piss them off but Ozzfest didn't stop by last year either. However, two years ago, on my 23'rd b-day my second concert experience ever was Ozzfest. Valen had managed to get some comped tickets due to working with the music industry and he got us tickets to Ozzfest. Granted that year second stage had bands like "The Used" but other than Bert's whines we didn't have much, oh and Drowning Pool had recently lost their lead singer as well. We survived it though and to be honest Zakk Wylde kicked some ass out there with BLS and Ozzy as well. P.O.D wasn't bad but I had System of a Down and they were right before Ozzy. I got a second degree sunburn that day because they said it was going to be cool and rainy and silly me I listened to em and wore pants and a long sleeved white cotton t-shirt over a tank. Anyway, it got hotter than hell and I had to take the long sleeved shirt off, so for 12 hours out in the sun in Kansas I let my lillywhite (previously had not even gone out in the sun without a long-sleeved shirt on that summer) shoulders, arms, neck, and chest bake in the sun. The cool thing is...that white long-sleeved shirt is now completely covered in the autographs of all the bands on the second stage except Apex Theory (we were a bit late for their signing).
