Boy, it took me some time to get into it, but once I finally let the movie absorb me, it was riveting. Traveling into me and opening up in the most unpredictable way.

Sideways

I find it fascinating when a movie paints a picture, yet still leaves the canvas clear for the strokes of your own life as well. I watched a conflicted man, felt as though he was back at square one, that half of his life had been a waste. I watched his friend trying to pull him forward, out of a slump, but never sacrificing his own happiness for his friends. I watched a lost soul trying to desperately hold onto the few things that remained true in his life only to watch them being pulled from him.

Then one day, there was air. A breath came from an unsuspecting place and instead of being pulled forward, he found his life was proceeding just to the left of where he was. Instead of moving forward, he needed to move sideways...it was only then that he would find the strength to move on.

After the movie, I reflected on my own life. I thought about the adversity, and the struggles to try to pull my life in one direction only to find it headed in another. How life, even if it's not what we expect, can turn out better than you anticipated. An easy lesson to understand, but difficult to remember.

Along with Sideways, I watched The Door in the Floor and finished reading The Five People You Meet in Heaven....We'll talk more tomorrow.

QUESTION: What was the last movie that you found yourself in?
