Hello! It is sunday night, and the Red Sox are losing again, now it's 2-0, and the fame is just beginning. I am not a supersticious person at all, but after last night how can you not believe on the Curse??? What an awful experience for all Boston fans. Obviously people like Allied are happy, after all the Yankees showed why they are always the favorites to win EVERYTHING. I did not understand and still can't get why everybody was sure that the cardenals were the team to beat, if the yankees plays half as goos as how they did yesterday, it is over before it starts.
Yesterday I saw two movies and loved them, one was "The Wizard of Oz" and the other was "Gattaca". I was one of those of few people who did not watch "THe Wizard..." as a child, I thought that I was going to be bored, but I was wrong, I loved most of the songs, most of the humor and I think the Scarecrow rules!! His physical performance was very funny, especially I loved to watch him run! The only character that I did not enjoy that much was the lion, but I think I am in the minority concerning his performance.
The other movie, "Gattaca" was very impresive, I really liked Jude Law in it, he has acting chops to share and I like that he is always on his posibilities as an actor. Actors who are half as beautiful looking as him tend to only go for romantic comedies or dumb erotic thrillers but Law has done few but very different movies, where even the ones that were not as good (lie "the talented Mr. Ripley", which I hated!) his performances shine. I cannot wait for for the theatrical release in Puerto Rico of "Alfie", where a lot of critics are saying that he gives an Oscar caliber performance.
Another thing that struck me about the movie is the topic of giving birth in a contemporary enviroment where science with bended ethics are the norm. In my island there is a big problem concerning insurance companies, gynocologists and the abundance of malpractice suits filed by patients who are disappointed that their babies were not born blond, with blue eyes and did not learn to read, speak and walk at the same pace as the manual says "normal babies" should. Now, because insurance costs are so high doctors that ractice private medicine do not take new female patients afraid that they will one day sue them. It is very fucked up that people are judged by their genetic charactheristics instead instead of how they perform on a given situation and without any consideration given to individual morality.
I am very happy that the new Pedro Almodovar movie, "La mala educacion" ("Bad education") is starting to be shown on USA cinemas next weekend, because now my friends in the States can watch it and because that also means that it will reach my country very soon too! His last movie, "Hable con ella" ("Talk to her") was my favorite movie from two years ago and I watched it again recently and founbd myself liking it even more. I hope this time Pedro gets a best movie nomination, because he certainly deserves it, he has been making great movies for almost twenty years, so it's about time he gets a nomination for one of the main categories.
Well, this is all for today, bye!
