Hello! I have not been able to write in a few days because of lack of electricity due to a blackout that happened during a small electrical storm. It is awful, once you get used to certain comodities, like being able to read at night, air conditioned sleep (in Puerto Rico it is hot and humid all the time!) and getting online.
But enought of that! On a sad note, on saturday morning, french intellectual Jacques Derrida died of cancer. He was one of the most original thinkers on the last century. He was a very influential philosopher, his work on literary criticism, his development of deconstructionism and his critique of occidental philosophycal thought are among his most important contributions to humanity. He will be missed.
On a happier note, also on saturday I saw a very beautiful movie about coincidence and the belief that there is a hidden plan for everyone, the name of the movie is "The princess and the warrior" and his author is director Tom Tykwer, the same one that did "Run Lola Run". I loved that acting, the story, the pacing, the photography, etc. Some movie critics found the movie dull but I found it very engaging, I was inmediately drawn to the pain and loneliness that main character was feeling. She was clearly in need to get away, to get to a new place, make new friends and have a chance at finding love. If you are a fan of actress Franka Potente and/or movies by Paul Thomas Anderson, especially "Magnolia", you will probably love this movie.
My favorite book, the one that is closer to my heart is "On the road" by Jack Kerouac. I write this because the book I am reading now, "Los detectives salvajes" reminds me a lot of this book. The naivete, curiosity and need to experience LIFE in his fullest of the main characters has me in need of reading AGAIN Keroauc's book.
I will end thisd now, because it has been going for long, but maybe I wil write more later, adios.
